News Topical, Digital Desk : The Delhi government has taken a major and historic step toward ending the long-standing disputes over land and house ownership in rural areas. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that the government will soon begin a comprehensive survey of inhabited areas. This survey will provide rural residents with solid, legal proof of their land and house ownership.

The aim is to give legal rights to property.

According to information released by the Chief Minister's Office, the government has drafted the "Delhi Population Survey and Records Handling Rules, 2025." This initiative is linked to the SVAMITVA Scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi , which aims to give people living in rural areas legal title to their property.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that millions of people living in populated areas have been living in their homes for decades without any legal documents. They neither have land records nor are they able to avail of benefits like bank loans. This new system will eliminate this problem and ensure that people get their rights.

Survey will be done by drone, investigation will also be done on the ground

The government will use modern technology in this survey. Drones and aerial photography will be used to map villages thoroughly, ensuring accurate information about every plot, street, road, and house. Field verification will also be conducted on-site to ensure no errors are made.

Drone survey completed in 31 villages

The Revenue Department, in collaboration with the Survey of India, has already begun work on this project in 48 villages. Drone surveys have been completed in 31 villages so far, and maps for 25 villages have been verified and sent for further processing.

Digital records and property cards will be available

The government will computerize all records related to inhabited areas and create a digital portal where people can easily obtain their land documents. After the survey is completed, people will be issued property cards, which will serve as legal proof of their house or land ownership. This will enable rural families to access bank loans, government schemes, and other benefits.

What is a population body

The inhabited area is the area where the village population lives. It includes houses, cow sheds, barns, and other structures. Before independence, no separate revenue records were maintained for these areas, which has led to confusion about land ownership to this day. This has led to frequent disputes in villages.

The Chief Minister stated that this survey will not only end land disputes but also accelerate rural development. Planning for roads, water, electricity, and other amenities will be better facilitated. This initiative will lay the foundation for transparent and robust land management in Delhi's rural areas, and its benefits will continue to accrue to the people for years to come .
