News Topical, Digital Desk : Type 1 Diabetes Awareness India : Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra are now launching a new diabetes initiative in India. Nick's non-profit organization, Beyond Type 1, which works globally for type 1 diabetes, is now campaigning in the country to raise awareness and eliminate the shame and hesitation associated with it. Priyanka said on Instagram that she is happy to bring this campaign of her husband Nick Jonas to India. Beyond Type 1 aims to bring type 1 diabetes patients from around the world on a platform where they can get the right information, resources, support and inspiration to live a better life.

What did Priyanka Chopra say?

Priyanka wrote that her understanding of type 1 diabetes began with Nick's medical journey. Diagnosed at just 13 years old, Nick managed his condition and created a life that empowers people to push beyond limits. Priyanka said that Nick founded Beyond Type 1 to help people living with diabetes gain respect, information, and support.

Why is India a major centre of this initiative?

Diabetes cases are steadily increasing worldwide, and India is one of them. According to the WHO, approximately 77 million people over the age of 18 in India suffer from diabetes. India has the second highest number of young people with type 1 diabetes in the world. In many cases, the disease is detected late, and children suffer alone for years. To address this gap, Beyond Type 1 is launching a campaign in India that will feature stories of people who have transformed their lives by battling diabetes. Participants in the campaign include Lieutenant Colonel Kumar Gaurav, Mehreen Rana, Nishant Amin, Shreya Jain, Indu Thampi, and Harichandran Ponnusamy.

Nick Jonas's own journey

Nick Jonas was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in 2002, when he was just 13 years old. Initially, he felt completely alone. Later, he realized that there were many people like him who felt isolated after their diagnosis, needing support and understanding. This experience led him to start Beyond Type 1, an organization that aims to create an environment where people can share their journeys, open up, and strengthen each other.
