News Topical, Digital Desk : If your vehicle is old and you live in Delhi or nearby areas or pass through it, then read this news carefully. To control pollution, vehicles older than a certain limit will not get fuel from petrol pumps in the coming days. The rules will be implemented in a phased manner and will start from July 1. Commission for Air Quality Management i.e. CAQM has announced that vehicles identified by Automatic Number Plate Recognition i.e. ANPR camera which are considered EOL (End of Life) will not be refueled. This decision can affect 5 lakh vehicles. The vehicle can also be confiscated for not following the rules.
When is the decision being implemented
According to CAQM, this rule will be implemented in Delhi from July 1, while from November 1, this rule will also be implemented in Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar and Sonipat, while in the rest of NCR this rule will be effective from April 1, 2026.
How will the tracking be done In a Moneycontrol report, CAQM member Dr. Virendra Sharma said that automatic number plate recognition cameras have been installed at 500 petrol pumps in Delhi, through which information of vehicles is being tracked in real-time. So far, more than 3.63 crore vehicles have been checked with this system, out of which 4.90 lakh vehicles have been recorded as 'end-of-life'. 'End-of-life' means that these vehicles have crossed the maximum period of 10 years in case of diesel and 15 years in case of petrol. To enforce the law, the Delhi Transport Department has deployed 100 monitoring teams. These teams will monitor the data, identify petrol pumps where the maximum number of vehicles violating the rules reach, and ensure strict compliance.
Why are these rules being imposed Dr. Sharma said that it is very important to remove old BS standard vehicles to clean the air of Delhi and NCR. These vehicles contribute a lot to air pollution. Now a transparent, digital and accountable system has been implemented, which will also be implemented at toll centers. About 100 teams will work for this.
What will happen if the rules are broken The ANPR system automatically scans the number plate of vehicles entering the petrol pump and then matches it with the VAHAN database which contains information such as vehicle registration, fuel type and age. If a vehicle is found to be above the valid age limit, it is recorded as EoL. After this, the concerned petrol pump gets a warning not to give fuel to these vehicles. The information of violation is recorded and sent to the agencies, which can further take action like seizing or scrapping the vehicle.
