News Topical, Digital Desk : Amid rising pollution in Delhi, a public interest litigation has been filed in the High Court regarding air purifiers, urging the court to reduce the GST on air purifiers. This petition was filed by a person named Kapil Madan.

The Delhi High Court's Chief Justice's bench will hear the matter tomorrow. The petition filed in the Delhi High Court seeks to declare air purifiers as medical devices. The petition states that air purifiers play a vital role in protecting respiratory health.

The petition seeks to reduce the GST rate on air purifiers from 18% to 5%, citing the 5% GST applicable on medical devices. The petition calls air purifiers essential equipment in light of pollution-related illnesses. The petition states that this issue concerns public health, affordability, and direct tax policy.

Earlier, Brijesh Goyal, Chairman of the Chamber of Trade and Industry, also called for a reduction in GST on air purifiers. Both Goyal and Gurmeet Arora, General Secretary of the CTI, stated that the current 18% GST on air purifiers is too high.

He also said that when the government is not able to completely control pollution, then such high tax on such products is an extra burden on the common people.
