News Topical, Digital Desk : In the month of Sawan, devotees of Bholenath go to Shiva temples and perform Jalabhishek and Rudrabhishek. But, in this month and especially on Sawan Shivratri, there is a special ritual of making a clay Shivling and worshipping it. It is also called Parthiv Shivling. 

The glory of worshipping Parthiv Shivling has been described in Shiv Mahapuran. According to this, worshipping Parthiv Shivling brings wealth, grains, health and children. One gets relief from physical and mental suffering and there is no fear of untimely death. 

It is said that Kushmanda Rishi's son Mandap started worshipping the earthen Shivling in Kaliyug. It is also believed that the one who worships the earthen Shivling lives in heaven for ten thousand kalpas i.e. millions of years. This earthen worship can be done by both men and women. 

It is written in Shiv Puran that earth worship removes all sorrows and fulfills all wishes. Those who worship earth daily attain devotion to Shiva in this world and the next. 

How to make Shivling 

  • Purify the soil of river and pond by mixing milk, cow dung, sandalwood, flowers etc. 
  • After this, start the process of making Shivlinga from clay while chanting the mantra Om Namah Shivaya.
  • While making the earthen Shivalinga, keep in mind that it should not be more than 12 inches high. 
  • To attain salvation in Kaliyug and to fulfil one's desires, one should worship the earthen Shivalinga.

How to do earth worship 

  • The time of Pradosh period is auspicious for the worship of earthen Shivalinga.
  • Invoke Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, Navgrahas and Mother Parvati. 
  • While chanting Om Namah Shivaya, offer water and Panchamrit on the Shivling. 
  • After offering perfume, flowers, incense, lamp and offering, perform Aarti. 
  • After offering flowers, request the Lord to go to his place. 
  • After this, immerse the earthen Shivalinga in water.
