News Topical, Digital Desk : Indian indices opened higher on December 12, tracking positive global cues. The Sensex rose 289.71 points, or 0.34 percent, to 85,107.84, while the Nifty advanced 76.65 points, or 0.30 percent, to 25,975.20. 

Hindalco, L&T, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank were among the major gainers on Nifty, while Max Healthcare, Shriram Finance, Tech Mahindra, SBI Life Insurance, Apollo Hospitals were among the losers.

Meanwhile, the rupee fell 24 paise to a new record low of 90.56 against the US dollar in early trading on Friday. The rupee's decline clearly reflects the impact of domestic and global sentiment. 

 How was the stock market on Thursday? 

Indian stock markets rose on Thursday, with the Nifty breaking its three-day losing streak. Foreign institutional investors continued selling for the eleventh consecutive session. Investors are awaiting India's CPI and other key data due today.
