Refusing to back down under legislative scrutiny, Finance Minister Wilson launched a sharp counter-defense, telling his critics not to school him on linguistic norms. Dismissing the stylistic objections, Wilson retorted, "Don't give me advice on Tamil. It's my own unique style. I can only speak it that way. Accept it or not, I can't change it for you." Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack, accusing the minister of undermining the dignity of the classical language and demanding an unconditional public apology. State BJP chief Nainar Nagendran condemned the remarks, stating, "You may belong to any religion by birth, but you must understand that, in spirit and identity, we are all Tamils... We can never accept you insulting the Tamil language. Therefore, you should publicly apologize for your ill-considered comments."
