News Topical, Digital Desk : The case of a mosque muezzin threatening to kill a policeman in Muzaffarnagar district, western Uttar Pradesh, has gained momentum. After a video of the threat went viral on social media, police took immediate action and registered an FIR against muezzin Mohammad Irfan and intensified efforts to arrest him. The incident occurred at the Madina Mosque located at Madina Chowk in the Civil Lines police station area. Two days ago, Muezzin Mohammad Irfan had made serious allegations of misbehavior and assault against the Kachchi Sadak Police Post in-charge, Vinod Chaudhary. Irfan claimed the officer behaved in this manner due to his loud noise during the Azaan.
A video of the incident went viral, purportedly showing the inspector dragging Irfan from the mosque and manhandling him. In protest, on Thursday, Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind activists submitted a memorandum to the SSP, Muzaffarnagar, demanding action against the police officer.
Threatening video takes a new turn
While the police were still investigating the allegations, another video surfaced, giving the entire matter a new twist. In the newly viral video, Muezzin Mohammad Irfan was recounting his ordeal while speaking to Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind activists. During this, he threatened to "behead" outpost in-charge Vinod Chaudhary. The video, which surfaced on social media, caused a stir within the police department. Considering the threat a serious offense, the police immediately investigated the video and filed a case against Muezzin Mohammad Irfan.
The police immediately registered a case
Giving details on the entire incident, CO City Siddharth K Mishra said , "Muzaffarnagar police received a video through X (formerly Twitter) in which a man is clearly seen threatening to kill a policeman. After verifying the veracity of the video and the circumstances, a case has been registered at the Civil Lines police station."
CO Mishra further stated that the previous instructions regarding the volume of the Azaan were in accordance with Supreme Court orders. He added that the allegations against the police are being investigated and appear to be baseless at this time. He added, "However, issuing threats is a serious crime, so a case has been registered against the accused and legal action has been initiated."
