News Topical, Digital Desk : More than two dozen rounds of bullets were fired on Saturday in Munger over a dispute over three katthas of land. A young man returning home after bathing in the Ganges was shot in the thigh near his left leg. He was admitted to Munger Sadar Hospital for treatment. Police have intensified raids, arresting more than two dozen people so far.
Chaos erupted on the Munger-Lakhisarai NH 80 when two groups exchanged heavy fire over a three-acre plot of land. In the ensuing exchange, 20-year-old Ankush Kumar, who was returning home after bathing in the Ganges for Navratri, was shot. His family rushed him to Munger's Sadar Hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, angry villagers blocked NH 80. Police from Safiarai police station arrived at the scene after receiving information about the incident, but the administration remained silent in the face of the villagers' anger. The angry villagers then chased away the police.
In fact, a dispute had been ongoing for several years between Jamal Malik, alias Bablu Mallick, a resident of Mammahapur Farda village of Singhiya Panchayat and former Mukhiya representative, and Dashrath Yadav, a resident of Bank Farda Tola village, over three katthas of land on the banks of the Ganges. The case was pending in court. Two days ago, Bablu Mallick, representing one side, was fencing the disputed land with bricks and cement. The other side filed a complaint at the Safia Sarai police station, prompting both sides to be summoned to the police station.
Regarding this matter, one party, Bablu Malik, and the other, Dashrath Yadav's family, reached the Safiasrai police station. Station House Officer Amresh Kumar explained to both parties that no construction work should be done on the disputed land. A fight broke out today (Saturday) over this very issue, leading to heavy gunfire between the two parties, with a young man being shot in the left leg. Another man's leg was broken in the stampede.
One party stated that they had a land dispute with Jamal Mallick, also known as Bablu Mallick, adjacent to the cemetery. A complaint was filed at the police station two days ago, after which the station chief halted Bablu Mallick's construction work. However, today, over this same land dispute, Bablu Mallick and his supporters opened fire on the attackers. During this incident, a young man returning home after bathing in the Ganges was shot.
Following the incident, Munger SP Syed Imran Masood and police from several police stations arrived at the scene and raided the homes of both parties. Police arrested more than two dozen people and confiscated the licensed weapon of Bablu Mallick, the former chief's representative.
Superintendent of Police Syed Imran Masood said that information was received that a fight had broken out between two communities over a boundary dispute near a petrol pump and a graveyard in Farda village, under the Safiasrai police station area. Stone-pelting and firing occurred during the incident, resulting in a young man being shot. He then arrived with several station heads and armed police. He added that approximately 22 people were arrested after raids were conducted at the homes of both parties.
He stated that a video of the firing at the scene has surfaced. Those involved have been identified. A preliminary investigation will be filed. The situation has now become calm, and police and a magistrate have been deployed at the scene. The Superintendent of Police appealed to the public to ignore rumors and inform the police if they encounter any problems. Avoid any acts of self-inflicted behavior. It's the time for Durga Puja. Celebrate the festival peacefully and maintain a spirit of brotherhood.
