
News Topical, Digital Desk : Patiala House Court has granted custody parole to Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid to attend the Monsoon Session of Parliament. He was allowed to attend the Parliament session from 24 July to 4 August. At the same time, Engineer Rashid's interim bail plea to attend the Parliament session was rejected.
Engineer Rashid has been lodged in Tihar jail since 2019 after he was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in a 2017 terror funding case.
Rashid is facing trial in terror funding case
Rashid's lawyer had earlier said that his client should be granted interim bail and allowed to attend parliamentary sessions. Rashid, the MP from Baramulla, defeated Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He is facing trial in a terror funding case, in which it is alleged that he funded separatists and terrorist groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chargesheet was filed against Engineer Rashid in 2019
According to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) FIR, Rashid’s name cropped up during the interrogation of businessman and co-accused Zahoor Watali. Following the filing of the chargesheet in October 2019, a special NIA court in March 2022 framed charges against Rashid and others under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging war against the government), and 124A (sedition) of the IPC, and for offences related to terrorist acts and terror funding under the UAPA.
