News Topical, Digital Desk : Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti has raised allegations and questions about Waqf properties. She has created a political atmosphere by expressing concern over Waqf properties. She alleges that more than 355,000 Waqf properties across the country are "missing." Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern citing data available from the new UMEED database, which lists registered Waqf properties.
She said, "Over 355,000 Waqf properties are missing across the country, with 7,240 entries missing from the new UMEED database in J&K alone. These deficiencies raise serious questions about the transparency and security of Waqf assets." Mehbooba Mufti questioned these numbers in a post on the social media platform X on Friday (December 12).
'Systematic attacks on Muslim property and Muslims'
Referring to the systematic attack on Muslim properties and Muslims across India, Mehbooba attached a screenshot of the new UMEED database, showing the difference between the data posted on December 9, 2024, and December 6, 2025.
Big difference in Waqf property list compared to last year!
Mehbooba further said in a social media post, "The erosion of Waqf land, along with a pattern of violence, vandalism, and usurpation, appears to be the latest blow against Muslims. Where will this end?" The UMEED database shows a huge difference between the Waqf properties listed last year and those listed this year after the new Waqf rules came into effect.
Where did the Waqf property fall drastically?
According to the screenshot posted by Mehbooba Mufti, except Maharashtra, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Delhi, Bihar and Telangana, where Waqf properties have increased compared to last year, all other states and union territories have shown a negative difference, giving the impression that there has been a huge decrease in Waqf properties in one year.
According to the UMEED database cited by Mehbooba Mufti, the highest number of "missing" properties was found in Uttar Pradesh, where Shia Muslim Waqf properties declined by 8,901 and Sunni Muslim Waqf properties by 130,816. Chandigarh, according to the data, has the lowest number of missing Waqf properties.
What is the status of Waqf properties in Jammu and Kashmir?
In the case of Jammu and Kashmir, data shows that despite being a Muslim-majority state, Waqf properties declined by 7,240. The largest increase in these properties was seen in Maharashtra, where Waqf properties increased by 26,238 last year. In Bihar, both Sunni and Shia Muslim properties increased last year. Sunni Waqf properties in Bihar increased by 3,117, while Shia Muslim Waqf properties increased by 3,470.
