Mumbai: The controversy over Dharavi's Shubhaniya Mosque continued since this morning. On one hand, the BMC team reached to demolish the illegal construction of the mosque, while on the other hand, after the protest by the local people, eight days were given to demolish the mosque. However, in the meantime, the trustees of the mosque have written a letter to the BMC and asked for 4 to 5 days to demolish the illegal construction themselves. Let us know what is the controversy regarding this mosque of Dharavi and why BMC reached to take action on it.
Permission was sought for repairs
Actually, the mosque committee claims that the mosque was registered with the Charity Commission in 1984. Earlier there was a basic structure here, after a few years soil started falling from the roof of the mosque, after which permission for repair was sought from BMC, but permission was not granted. After this, the trust started illegal construction in the mosque without permission. Now this mosque has two floors and a dome. In 2023, a complaint was filed with the BMC against the illegal construction done in this mosque, after which BMC issued a notice. BMC wanted to know by conducting a survey how much illegal construction has been done in the mosque.
DPR did a survey of the mosque
The mosque committee filed a petition in the court against this notice, since then the case is going on in the court. The mosque committee says that like other structures in Dharavi, this mosque also comes under DPR i.e. Dharavi Redevelopment Authority. On September 12, DRP also surveyed this mosque. The trustees of the mosque are raising questions that, if this land is under BMC, then how did DPR conduct the survey. After receiving the notice from BMC, the mosque committee has also filed an appeal in the Collector's office.
