On the 13th day, breaking all the rules, six great warriors Drona, Ashwatthama, Brihadbal, Kritavarma etc. surrounded Abhimanyu from all sides and killed him. The next day i.e. on the 14th day of the war, Arjuna vowed to take revenge for his son's death from Jayadratha. Because Jayadratha played an important role in trapping Abhimanyu in the Chakravyuh. Therefore, Arjuna vowed that he would kill Jayadratha before sunrise, otherwise he would take Agni Samadhi.

As soon as the pledge taken by Arjun was known, the entire Kaurava army started protecting Jayadratha and hid him. When Lord Krishna saw that the sun was about to set and if Arjun's pledge was not fulfilled, he would go into Samadhi. Then he eclipsed the sun with his Maya.

This is how Jayadratha was killed

Due to this, Jayadrath thought that the sun had set now and he became careless and came in front of Arjun himself. Then Lord Krishna told Arjun to kill Jayadrath immediately. Then Arjun got the chance and killed Jayadrath. Thus, his vow was fulfilled.
