Lalu Yadav has become the national president of RJD for the 13th time. This was announced by the party's national election officer Ramchandra Purve at the RJD office. Lalu Yadav has been the national president of the party since the formation of Rashtriya Janata Dal in 1997. Rashtriya Janata Dal was established in 1997 as a result of the split in Janata Dal by Lalu Prasad.

On Monday, June 23, Lalu Prasad Yadav completed the process of filing nomination papers for the post of National President of Rashtriya Janata Dal. With this it became clear that his election will be unopposed. The nomination papers were scrutinized at 2 pm on Tuesday. The time limit for withdrawal of nomination was fixed from 1 pm to 3 pm, but Lalu Prasad Yadav did not withdraw his nomination. After this, a notification was issued and he was declared elected unopposed to the post of National President of RJD.

Last week, in the state council meeting, Prasad had told RJD workers that the upcoming assembly elections have to be fought with the resolve to make Yadav the next chief minister of Bihar. Earlier, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav has made it clear that Tejashwi Yadav is the only one in the grand alliance or will be the face of the chief minister. Lalu Yadav appealed to make his younger son Tejashwi Yadav the chief minister and said that Nitish Kumar and RSS should be thrown out.
