The US President was overjoyed upon receiving the Nobel. The first photo of Machado presenting the Nobel to Trump surfaced, clearly showing the US President's joy on his face.
Trump said – it is an honor for me
After receiving the Nobel Peace Prize from Maria Corina Machado, Trump wrote on his social media handle, Truth Platform, "She is an amazing woman who has endured so much." Trump further wrote, “Machado awarding him the Nobel is a wonderful sign of mutual respect.”
After the meeting at the White House, Trump praised the Venezuelan leader, saying, "Machado has given me her Nobel Peace Prize for my work." A White House official told Reuters, “US President Trump wants to keep the Nobel Prize.”
Could Machado give her Nobel to Trump?
The Nobel Institute said, "Machado cannot present her Nobel Prize to Trump, an honor he has long coveted. This move, while symbolic, is an extraordinary event."
The Nobel Institute further said, Trump has completely sidelined Machado, while Maria Corina Machado has long been the face of resistance against the government of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela.
