News Topical, Digital Desk : Volcanic ash from the Haile Gubbi eruption in Ethiopia has spread across parts of the Middle East. In response, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued a safety advisory for Indian airlines. The ash from the volcanic eruption has impacted routes passing through the Muscat Flight Information Region.
In its safety advisory, the DGCA said that the Toulouse Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre and the Airports Authority of India have already issued a volcanic ash advisory and an ASHTAM, and have asked airline operators to avoid all affected areas and altitudes
DGCA gave this advice to airline companies
In its advisory, DGCA has asked airlines to review their operational manuals on volcanic ash procedures and inform the cockpit and cabin crew accordingly.
Airlines have also been directed to adjust flight planning and routing based on the latest advisory, monitor NOTAM and weather updates, and immediately report any suspicious ash, including engine fluctuations or cabin odors.
Many flights were cancelled
Due to the volcanic eruption and the ash plume, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has cancelled its Amsterdam-Delhi service (KL 871) and the return Delhi-Amsterdam flight (KL 872) for safety reasons.
Indian Airlines also issued a warning
It is noteworthy that Akasa Air has issued this advisory. The airline stated, "We are closely monitoring volcanic activity in Ethiopia and its potential impact on flight operations in the surrounding area. Our teams will continue to assess the situation in accordance with international aviation advisories and safety protocols and will take necessary action as needed. At Akasa Air, passenger safety and well-being is our top priority."
Volcano erupts after 10,000 years
Let us tell you that Haile Gubbi volcano in Ethiopia erupted on Sunday for the first time in about 10,000 years. After this, a cloud of ash was seen in the sky. It is being reported that after the eruption of the volcano, a large cloud of ash rose across the Red Sea towards Oman and Yemen and then drifted further east. Officials are monitoring the movement of the cloud. It is being reported that a large cloud of ash from the volcano has started flowing towards northern India.
