
News Topical, Digital Desk : The Air India has started paying compensation to the victims of the 12 June plane crash in Ahmedabad. According to the latest information, so far two-thirds of the victims have been compensated by Air India. The Air India Dreamliner plane flying from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick crashed shortly after takeoff on 12 June, killing about 260 people on board and on the ground.
Help is being given directly by the company
Air India Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Campbell Wilson informed airline employees in an internal post, "Our teams are helping families get interim compensation. Each affected family is being assisted directly by an Air India representative, of which about two-thirds of the families have already received payment or their payment is in the final stages. " The Tata Group-owned airline said that Tata Sons is in the process of setting up mechanisms to provide long-term support to families and survivors.
Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was the victim of the accident
In an internal post to airline employees, Wilson also said that the airline will "continue to invest in upgrading aircraft, products, services, systems, capabilities and most of all, people". The accident, one of the worst air disasters in India in decades, involved Air India flight number AI171, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner. Of the 242 people on board, 241 were killed, while a total of 260 people, including casualties on the ground, lost their lives.
Soon after the crash, Air India's parent company Tata Sons announced that it would provide Rs 1 crore to the families of each person killed in the crash. Air India announced on June 14 that it would provide an interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of each deceased and survivor of the Ahmedabad plane crash to help meet their immediate financial needs.
