News Topical, Digital Desk : Punjab News: Punjab Police has arrested one person and detained another on charges of leaking secret military information to Pakistan. Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav gave this information on Sunday.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that acting on the basis of reliable intelligence, a suspect was arrested for leaking sensitive information about the activities of the Indian Army to a Pakistani handler. On his identification, another accused has also been detained. It is alleged that they were in contact with an official of the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi and were leaking information to Pakistani handlers.
The DGP said that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were receiving payments through online transactions in exchange for confidential information. Both were in constant touch with the handler and were involved in delivering funds to other local operatives as per his instructions. Two mobile phones have also been recovered from them.
He said that this operation is an important step towards dismantling the cross-border espionage network and strengthens our commitment to national security. As per the prescribed protocol, further investigation will be carried out, which will focus on tracing financial clues and identifying additional operatives and relationships within the network.
Earlier, on April 27, amid the ongoing 'war against drugs' in Punjab, the DGP had directed police officials to adhere to the deadline issued to end the 'drug-free Punjab' campaign by May 31 this year.
The DGP said that senior police officers, including the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Commissioner of Police (CP), will have to ensure a drug-free Punjab and take responsibility for it. The SSPs were directed to make a concrete plan to make every area of the state drug-free.
