'Caste census will create controversies'
Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, commenting on the census in Karnataka, says, "If this is done, many questions will arise, such as how many sub-castes are there in each caste? This work was done earlier during the British period, so what was the compulsion or intention behind doing it again now? It is not clear whether the country will benefit from this or not, but it will definitely create new controversies."

Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said, " The demand for caste census was made by the opposition, which has been accepted by the government. But as the census is progressing, new controversies are coming to the fore. For example, in Uttar Pradesh, the Kurmi community is considered backward class, while in Gujarat they come under the forward caste. In Orissa and Bengal, this same community is demanding Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe.
