News Topical, Digital Desk : The government is now taking a new and major step to reduce the rising pollution in Delhi. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government will host the first "Clean-Air Innovation Showcase" event at IIT Delhi in the last week of December. The program aims to identify new technologies that can quickly and effectively clean Delhi's air. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that preliminary scrutiny of approximately 300 entries from across the country has been completed. The best teams are now being invited in batches to present their models and machines before the ITEC committee of experts, where they will showcase their models and machines.
Innovators will introduce two types of technologies
- Devices to reduce PM2.5 and PM10 emissions from BS-IV and older vehicles
- Technologies that clean or capture PM2.5 and PM10 already in the air
Each team must demonstrate their prototype, device, or machine on-the-ground to demonstrate how their solution will work on the ground.
Public event to be held at IIT Delhi
This showcase is being held in a completely open presentation format. This means that the public, students, researchers, and government officials will all be able to witness live demonstrations of the effectiveness of various technologies in cleaning Delhi's air. The program will run over several days and will consist of 3-4 rounds.
What did the Environment Minister say?
Sirsa said, "We want the people of Delhi to see for themselves why the government is choosing which technology." This is a major step towards transparency. The ITEC committee of experts will evaluate the technologies on the following criteria:
- Usefulness in Delhi conditions
- Cost and Maintenance
- Adherence to legal standards
- Ability to be implemented on a large scale
Field trials of eligible technologies will be conducted
Qualified technologies will be sent for field trials and lab testing, the cost of which will be borne by the DPCC. Models that already have strong test reports can be sent directly to the final review.
The government will provide incentives to the winners in two phases.
- 5 lakh after field trials
- 50 lakh after approval for mass implementation
Innovation Challenge part of Clean Air Strategy
According to the government, this innovation challenge is part of Delhi's long-term clean air strategy. Every winter, Delhi's air quality deteriorates due to stubble burning, dust, vehicle emissions, and the weather. Against this backdrop, the government wants to develop a system using new technologies that will help maintain clean air throughout the year.
Campaign for clean air through scientific methods in Delhi!
The Environment Minister said, "Under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi is preparing to fight pollution year-round with scientific methods and public participation. She has appealed to students, start-ups, and citizens from across the country to attend this showcase at IIT Delhi and strengthen Delhi's clean air campaign."
