Delhi News: Once again, the price of trust in Delhi had to be paid in crores. A couple duped a businessman of Rs 2.70 crore by showing him the dream of a commercial project called 'Business Park' in a prestigious area of the capital.
Now the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has achieved a big success in this much talked about case and has arrested the absconding couple Vinay Jain and his wife Asha Jain. Both of them were hiding for the last two years, dodging the law.
Web of false promises
Victim businessman Virendra Kathuria had filed a complaint with the EOW that Vinay Jain had promised him three shops in the 'AVJ Business Park' project. The accused claimed that they have got the land from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the construction work is going to start soon.
Trusting the accused, Kathuria paid Rs 2.70 crore to the accused on January 1, 2016, but when the time came to take over the showroom, the truth came out. The land on which the showrooms were to be built had already been mortgaged
to a financial company. Not only did the project fail, but the entire property was auctioned and demolished.
Playing hide and seek with the law, but could not escape
Both the accused remained absent in the investigation and the court declared them wanted criminals on 25 April 2023. But the EOW team did not give up. After months of technical surveillance and ground intelligence network, they were finally caught on 7 April 2025.
Shocking
revelations have been made during the investigation. Accused Vinay Jain has studied only till class 8 but was an expert in cheating. His wife Asha Jain is a graduate and was an equal partner in the entire scheme. Both of them, by becoming directors of many companies, have cheated common people of crores of rupees by making false promises of investment in real estate.
