
News Topical, Digital Desk : Naxalites killed a man who hoisted the tricolour on Independence Day in a remote village in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district. The Naxalites caught him on suspicion of being a police informer and brutally killed him. The victim was identified as Manish Nureti of Bingunda village under Chhotebetia police station area. On Monday (August 18), a group of Naxalites arrived in the village with weapons and took Nureti and two others with them.
The Naxalites held a Jan Adalat where they killed Nureti, while the other two were released after being beaten up. The Maoists put up a poster claiming that Nureti was a police informer. However, this is not true. Kanker district Superintendent of Police IK Elesela said that Nureti's body has not been recovered yet. His family members are being contacted. Naxalites often visit Bingunda village.
The deceased had no connection with the police
In the last one and a half years, Naxalites have killed four to five people accusing them of being police informers. The Superintendent of Police said that none of the deceased had any connection with the police. Confirming the incident, Inspector General of Police of Bastar Range Sundarraj P said, "A short video has also surfaced in which Manish Nureti is seen participating in the Independence Day celebrations."
Naxalites were angry over hoisting of national flag
The IG said that the murder is being investigated and strict action will be taken against those involved. A video that went viral on social media showed some villagers, including children, hoisting the tricolour while chanting 'Vande Mataram' and 'Bharat Mata ki Jai'.
Police sources said the Naxals were unhappy with Nureti and some others for hoisting the national flag in the village on August 15. They said Nureti was one of the villagers seen in the video.
