New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) – a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power has acquired the Project Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) “Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III Transmission Limited” for the Transmission System Project related to System Strengthening for Interconnection of Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III Complexes on August 30, 2024 from the bidding process coordinator PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL) after competing with various private sector players and emerging as the successful bidder in the Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process.

Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III Transmission Limited will implement a transmission system consisting of 765 kV D/C transmission line connecting Bhadla-III & Bikaner-III sub-stations and associated bay extension works at these sub-stations in the state of Rajasthan. This transmission system is an inter-state transmission system project and is to be commissioned in 24 months.

This project of a high capacity tie interconnection between Bhadla-III and Bikaner-III PS will provide flexibility in power transfer from Bhadla/Bikaner RE cluster as well as enhance the resilience of the transmission corridor in both the complexes. In addition, the above project will also help in meeting the additional evacuation requirement from Bhadla-III PS for some RE generators coming up in future years.

As of 31st July 2024, POWERGRID has commissioned and operated 1,77,790 circuit kilometers of transmission lines, 278 sub-stations and transformation capacity of 532,446 MVA. By adopting the latest technological equipment and techniques and advanced use of automation and digital solutions, POWERGRID has been able to maintain an average transmission system availability of more than 99.8%.

POWERGRID is implementing various transmission system projects on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis through its various project SPVs acquired under tariff based bidding process. These projects will strengthen the Indian transmission infrastructure to deliver green energy to the national grid, thereby reducing dependence on fossil fuels, in line with the vision of the Government of India to achieve 500 GW renewable energy target by 2030.
