BHEL Shares Jump 4% on Dalal Street Following Massive ₹28,000-Crore
State-run engineering and power equipment manufacturing powerhouse Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) witnessed a sharp rally on Dalal Street during Wednesday’s opening trade, with its share price jumping more than 4 percent within the first thirty minutes of market activity. The aggressive buying interest was catalyzed by a major regulatory filing submitted prior to market opening, wherein the public sector undertaking (PSU) announced that it had secured significant contracts from private power generator Adani Power Limited for four distinct thermal power projects. Reflecting strong institutional and retail demand, the stock rapidly breached the ₹417 mark against its preceding closing price of ₹400 per share, sustaining healthy trading volumes and building on an exceptional market trajectory that has already seen the stock surge over 41 percent year-to-date in 2026 and more than 54 percent over the past twelve months.
Multi-Billion Rupee Scope: Supplying Boilers, Turbines and Generators for 2x800 MW Plants
According to the official disclosure submitted by BHEL to domestic stock exchanges, the contractual agreement encompasses the engineering, procurement, and supply of core equipment alongside dedicated erection supervision and related technical services for four major thermal power plants featuring a capacity of 2 x 800 MW. The state-owned enterprise will manufacture and deliver critical power generation hardware, including advanced boilers, turbines, and generators, along with specialized auxiliary machinery essential for base-load utility operations. The company clarified that each of the four individual project packages carries a contract value ranging between ₹5,000 crore and ₹7,000 crore, cumulatively pushing the aggregate contract valuation to between ₹20,000 crore and ₹28,000 crore, excluding applicable Goods and Services Tax (GST).
Expanding Thermal Order Book: Dalal Street Cheers BHEL's Expanding Revenue Visibility
The multi-billion-rupee contract from Adani Power serves as a major endorsement of BHEL's manufacturing capabilities, significantly bolstering its outstanding order book and providing robust revenue visibility across medium- and long-term execution cycles. Market analysts attribute the sustained upward momentum in capital goods and PSU power equipment stocks to India's accelerating baseload thermal capacity expansion, driven by record domestic peak power demand and enhanced private sector capital expenditure. As BHEL maintained its upward trajectory throughout the early morning session, market participants noted that the scale of fresh order inflows reinforces the enterprise's leadership in supercritical power generation technology while cementing its position as a primary beneficiary of India's dual push toward industrial power reliability and indigenous manufacturing.
