Vindhya-Purvanchal Expressway Fast-Tracked: UP Releases ₹2,800 Crore
In a decisive move to accelerate freight logistics and regional mobility across Purvanchal and the Vindhya belt, the Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday, November 5, 2026, released an initial sum of ₹2,800 crore dedicated entirely to land acquisition for the Vindhya-Purvanchal Link Greenfield Expressway. Budgeted at an estimated total construction outlay of approximately ₹9,039 crore, the 117-kilometer entry-controlled, six-lane spur expressway—engineered for future expansion to eight lanes—will bridge the operational gap between the Purvanchal Expressway and the upcoming Vindhya Expressway. Originating from Pakhanpura in Ghazipur and culminating at Ranipur in the Chunar tehsil of Mirzapur, this strategic arterial corridor will seamlessly integrate the Chhattisgarh-to-Ganga Expressway network, unlocking a swift alternative route for daily commuters and commercial transporters traversing Ghazipur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Sonbhadra, Singrauli in Madhya Pradesh, and adjacent Chhattisgarh border areas.
117-Km Greenfield Alignment: Acquiring 1,558 Hectares Across 134 Villages
To establish the expansive right-of-way required for the 117-km corridor, the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has formulated an extensive land acquisition roadmap encompassing 1,558.93 hectares of land across 134 rural revenue villages in three districts. The planned acquisition spans 576 hectares across 48 villages in Ghazipur, 663 hectares across 52 villages in Chandauli, and 318 hectares across 34 villages in Mirzapur. By connecting agricultural heartlands and raw material zones directly to the state capital via the Purvanchal network, the high-speed greenfield expressway is slated to catalyze industrial parks, logistics hubs, and economic clusters throughout eastern Uttar Pradesh, dramatically shrinking transit times while boosting interstate trade with neighboring central states.
Direct Fund Disbursals to DMs: Streamlined Survey, Circle Rates, and Farmer Compensation
Under the administrative blueprint approved by the state government, the sanctioned acquisition capital has been directly remitted into the official accounts of the respective District Magistrates, earmarking ₹1,200 crore for Chandauli, ₹1,100 crore for Ghazipur, and ₹500 crore for Mirzapur. With comprehensive drone and land demarcation surveys already completed across the designated alignment, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) of the concerned tehsils will execute the direct land-purchase registrations from local farmers in favor of the state administration. The financial compensation paid to landholders will be calibrated according to prevailing regional circle rates, and the state government has mandated that respective District Magistrates remain directly accountable for ensuring seamless financial integrity, transparent deed execution, and immediate disbursement of compensation packages to eligible landowning families.
