News Topical, Digital Desk : The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered the users of Boeing 787-9 and B787-10 models to investigate the Ram Air Turbine (RAT). According to the FAA report, wrong titanium alloy material has been used to make RAM in these two models of Boeing, which is not safe.
What did the FAA say?
The FAA says that if this problem is not resolved, it will affect the backup of hydraulic and electric power. The RAT installed in both these models of Boeing is made of grade 1 or grade 2 titanium, which has very low damage control capability.
What is RAT?
RAT is used in the aircraft as an emergency backup power. If both the engines of the aircraft fail, then RAT works to provide power backup, with the help of which emergency landing can be done.
According to Boeing,
We have issued instructions to all airlines using Boeing 787-9 and Boeing 787-10 in February 2025. We also fully support the FAA's proposal.
This model crashed in Ahmedabad
Air India's plane AI171 also crashed in Ahmedabad on June 12. RAT was also present in it. Before Vistara's Vial, Air India had Boeing B787-8 Dreamliners, one of which crashed in Ahmedabad.
