There will be places to feed the dogs
Meanwhile, the chairperson of the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Satya Sharma, on Tuesday (September 9) directed the officials to create a place to feed stray dogs in every ward of the city. Satya said that in coordination with the local municipal councilors, three to four places will be identified in each ward, where places to feed dogs will be created.
'Submit the report in a week'
The officials were asked to submit an action taken report on the move within a week. Satya stressed that the MCD is intensifying the sterilisation and vaccination drives at Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres across the city.
A sub-committee is working on strategies to control the stray dog population and prevent the spread of diseases like rabies. Satya Sharma said that uncontrolled feeding of dogs by people in public places often leads to the formation of packs, leading to conflicts and an increase in dog bite incidents.
This step was taken after the Supreme Court urged the MCD to take immediate action to curb the problem of dog bites. Satya Sharma appealed to all councillors, residents and voluntary organizations to cooperate in this initiative.
