News Topical, Digital Desk : The wave of official resignations continues in Uttar Pradesh. Recently, City Magistrate Alankar Agnihotri of Bareilly resigned over Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda's sit-in protest at the Magh Mela in Prayagraj and the UGC regulations. Now, another official has resigned.
Prashant Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of the GST Department, has resigned in support of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He has sent his two-page resignation to the Governor. In his statement, Prashant Kumar Singh stated that he was taking this step in support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath . He said he was deeply hurt by the Shankaracharya's derogatory remarks against CM Yogi.
He said, "I stand by the state whose salt I eat and the state from which I receive my salary. CM Yogi is a democratically elected Chief Minister; I cannot tolerate his disrespect." He explained that he had been mentally distressed for the past three days. He also said that once his resignation is accepted, he will devote himself to social work using his personal resources.
Prashant Singh wrote in his letter, "I am hurt by the derogatory remarks made by Avimukteshwarananda Shankaracharya in Prayagraj against the Uttar Pradesh government and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. I am a simple employee of the state of Uttar Pradesh. I earn my livelihood from the Uttar Pradesh government. That income supports my family. Therefore, it is my official duty to oppose any baseless rant against my state government and its head, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while adhering to the Uttar Pradesh State Employee Rules. I consider Avimukteshwarananda Shankaracharya's derogatory remarks against Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to be against the state, the Constitution, and democracy. Therefore, in this situation, I am submitting my resignation in support of the government and in opposition to Avimukteshwarananda Shankaracharya."
