News Topical, Digital Desk : An 86-year-old man in England was fined nearly 30,000 rupees for spitting out a leaf. The leaf had flown into his mouth, and he spat it out. The bizarre incident has gone viral on social media, and people are questioning the authorities' strictness. Roy Marsh, an elderly man, was fined in Skegness, Lincolnshire. He was jogging and relaxing near Boating Lake. Suddenly, a strong wind blew and a large leaf flew into his mouth. He immediately spat it out.

A fine of 30,000 rupees

"I was sitting there when a strong wind blew a large reed into my mouth. I spat it out and as I got up to walk away, two officers came running towards me," the BBC quoted Roy Marsh as saying.

An officer said he saw him spit on the ground. Roy responded by calling him "silly boy." But the officers didn't listen and issued a fine of 250 pounds (about 30,000 rupees). The fine was later reduced on appeal to £150 (about 18,000 rupees), which Roy paid. He says, “It was all unnecessary and too much. This could have happened to anyone. Now I'm afraid to go out.”

Daughter expressed her displeasure on social media

Roy's daughter, Jane Marsh Fitzpatrick, wrote the full story on Facebook. She explained that her father has mobility issues, severe asthma, and heart disease. Yet, he still takes daily walks around Boiting Lake.

Jane wrote, "Papa choked on a small leaf in his mouth. He coughed and spat it out, just the leaf. An officer immediately came, spoke very rudely, and issued a fine."

Jen further stated that the officials are harassing the elderly without reason. "Keeping the city clean is important, no doubt about it," she said. "But these officials are unnecessarily intimidating and harassing the elderly. This is completely wrong."
