Washington: US President Joe Biden has announced that he will not contest the upcoming presidential election. After his announcement, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has now praised him and said that it has been an honor to work with him for the last 22 years. Blinken said that Biden restored American leadership around the world and provided historic achievements while serving as president.

"Working for @POTUS for the last 22 years has been and will continue to be the honor of my life. He has restored American leadership around the world and achieved historic milestones," Antony Blinken said in a post on X. "I look forward to building on that record with him over the next six months."

Support given to Kamala Harris

Blinken's statement comes after Biden announced that he would not contest re-election in the 'best interest' of the Democratic Party and the country. Biden said he would speak to the nation in more detail later this week. He endorsed Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate from the Democratic Party.

'Choosing Kamala Harris as Vice President was a good decision'

Addressing the gathering, Biden said, "My fellow Democrats, my first decision as the party's nominee in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as your vice president and it remains my best decision. Today I want to give Kamala Harris my full support and endorsement to make her our party's nominee this year."
