The festival of Soorasamharam is considered very important. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva's son Murugan Swami i.e. Karthikeya ji. During this time, devotees observe strict fasting . It is believed that it purifies the body and mind, which pleases Lord Murugan. So wake up in the morning and clean the house and the place of worship. Decorate the house with rangoli and flowers etc. Install the idol of Lord Skanda. Bathe him with Gangajal. Apply sandalwood tilak. Offer a garland of yellow flowers. Light a ghee lamp in front of him. Offer fruits, sweets etc. Chant Vedic mantras. Conclude the worship with Aarti.
Blow the conch. Apologize for mistakes made during the puja. Completely avoid tamasic things. Also, definitely visit the temple of Lord Murugan and do some charity . By observing this fast, harmony, peace and all kinds of material happiness are attained.
