Lord Rama's great devotee Valmiki Ji has given information about his incarnation in Ramayana. According to this verse, Lord Rama was born on the ninth day of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month in Cancer Lagna and Punarvasu Nakshatra. Hence, Ramnavami is celebrated every year in the month of Chaitra.
