Raanjhanaa fame actor Dhanush has won from the Madras High Court. The court has rejected Netflix India's petition in the copyright case. Dhanush had claimed that a 3-second clip from his film has been used in Nayanthara's documentary without permission.

Dhanush had filed a case against Nayanthara

Dhanush had approached the Madras High Court in November 2024 against Nayanthara, her husband Vignesh Shivan and their production house Rowdy Pictures Pvt Ltd. Dhanush used footage from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan without permission in the Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale on Nayanthara and others.

Dhanush had earlier warned to remove the clip

In fact, Dhanush had warned Netflix at that time that if the 3-second clip of Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was not removed from Nayanthara's documentary within 24 hours, he would fight a legal battle. Now the judge postponed the decision on the petition filed by Netflix last week without giving any date.

In this case, Judge Abdul Quddus ruled that Netflix, which had contracted to release the documentary, had no right to sue over copyright.

What is the whole matter?

After the release of Nayanthara's documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, Dhanush and his production house filed a case against Nayanthara and her husband Vignesh Shivan. The court had sought a response from Nayanthara in this matter. Responding to this, the actress said that she had sought permission from Dhanush to use the clip of the film, which she got.

Only after this, he used the BTS footage of the film instead of its clip. After this, Dhanush sent a legal notice to Nayanthara demanding 10 crores. This whole dispute started in November last year, on which the decision has come now. Let us tell you that earlier, the actress's film Annapurna, which came in the year 2023, was also banned on Netflix due to huge controversies.
