The Supreme Court on Monday refused to consider a plea by a West Bengal lawyer who alleged that he was being targeted by the TMC government after filing a petition against the state and its police.
The petitioner said she was representing some victims in a case related to crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali allegedly by local Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders.
The High Court said, false cases were foisted against him
Alleging that false cases were foisted against him, he sought transfer of these cases out of the state. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Vishwanathan asked him to approach the Calcutta High Court with his grievances.
The petitioner further said, 'Because I mostly represent cases against police atrocities in the state, the TMC government has targeted me.' He said, ‘There is a grave threat to my life. I can be murdered, I can be killed.’
Were the elderly parents also victims of harassment?
Urging the apex court to look into his case, he alleged that his aged parents were also suffering due to harassment by the police. He claimed that witnesses in the cases against him were influenced and evidence was tampered with. While hearing the matter, the bench said, "The Calcutta High Court has been passing orders in such cases." So he should have faith in the High Court.
