History of Kashi Vishwanath Temple

Kashi Vishwanath Temple is dedicated to Mahadev, the God of Gods. This temple is situated on the banks of the river Ganges. It is contained in the Sanatan scriptures that Kashi is the city of Baba. In simple words, Kashi is also called the city of Lord Shiva. Lord Vishnu also lived in Kashi during the divine times. Vishwanath Jyotirlinga is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas in this city. For this, the temple of Lord Shiva located in Kashi is called Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

 

When is Saptarishi Aarti performed?

Saptarishi Aarti is performed daily in Kashi Vishwanath Temple from 07:00 pm to 08:15 pm. On the full moon day, Saptarishi Aarti starts one hour earlier i.e. at 06:00 pm. Devotees are allowed to enter till 06:30 pm to participate in Saptarishi Aarti. On the full moon day, it is advised to enter till 05:30 pm.

There is a religious belief that at 7 pm every day, seven sages come to Kashi Vishwanath temple to perform the Aarti of Lord Mahadev (Saptarishi Aarti Significance). On the basis of this belief, Saptarishi Aarti is performed daily. In this Aarti, Pandits of seven different gotras perform Aarti together.
