A new semiconductor unit will be set up in Sanand, Gujarat. The Modi cabinet has approved the proposal of Kains Semicon Private Limited for this. News agency ANI gave this information quoting the Ministry of Electronics and IT.

According to the statement of the ministry, the proposed unit will be set up with an investment of Rs 3,300 crore. The capacity of this unit will be to manufacture 60 lakh chips per day.

 

Chips will be manufactured for many sectors

According to ANI, this unit will manufacture chips for various sectors, which will meet the needs of sectors like industrial, automotive, electric vehicles, consumer electronics, telecommunications and mobile phones. It is worth noting that in December 2021, a program with a total cost of Rs 76,000 crore was notified for the development of semiconductors and display manufacturing ecosystem in India.

Earlier, approval has been given to four units

After this, in June 2023, the Union Cabinet approved the proposal to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat. The central government approved three more semiconductor units in February 2024. Under these, Tata Electronics is setting up a semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat and a semiconductor unit in Morigaon, Assam. At the same time, CG Power is setting up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat.
