New Delhi: Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah died in Israel's rapid air strikes. After Nasrallah's death, everyone has a question in their mind that how did Israel come to know about his whereabouts. Now it has come to light that an Iranian spy is behind this.
Iranian spy gave information just a few hours ago
An Iranian spy tipped off Israeli authorities about Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah's whereabouts hours before he was killed in an airstrike in Beirut, Lebanon, French newspaper Le Parisien has reported.
Nasrallah was in Hezbollah's underground headquarters
Citing a security source in Lebanon, the report said the spy had told Israeli authorities that Nasrallah would be at Hezbollah's underground headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut to attend a meeting with several top members of the organization.
Israel promoted spies
According to a New York Times report, Israel's recent successes against Hezbollah are a direct result of the country's decision to devote far more intelligence resources to targeting Hezbollah following its 2006 war with the Iran-backed group.
The report said that the Israeli military and intelligence agencies collected intelligence for several years.
For several years afterwards, Israel devoted extensive resources to gathering information on Hezbollah's leadership and strategy.
The NYT report said Israeli intelligence agency Unit 8200 created cutting-edge cyber tools to better intercept Hezbollah's cellphones and other communications.
Israel's statement
"Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorize the world," the Israel Defense Forces said in a post on X. Later in the day, Hezbollah confirmed the news. "Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has died after leading the group for nearly 30 years," the statement said.
