Why is Chhath Puja celebrated? (Why Chhath Puja is Celebrated?)
Chhath Puja is celebrated to thank the Sun God and express gratitude towards him. During this time, people also worship Chhathi Maiya, the sister of Sun God. At the same time, many stories are also popular about this holy festival, one of which we will mention today. According to mythology, in the Dwapar era, Lord Krishna's son Samba was suffering from leprosy, due to which Murlidhar advised him to worship the Sun. Later, Samba worshiped the Sun God with full rituals and true devotion. As a result of worshiping Lord Sun, Samba got rid of leprosy. After this, he built 12 Sun temples. The most famous among them is the Konark Sun Temple, which is in Odisha. Apart from this, a temple is in Aurangabad, Bihar. This temple is known as Devark Sun Temple.
It is believed that when there was a war between the gods and the demons in ancient times, the gods had to face defeat in this war. At that time, Goddess Aditi performed a tough penance of Chhathi Maiya at this very place (Devark Sun Temple) to get a child. Pleased with this penance, Chhathi Maiya blessed Aditi with a bright son. Later, with the blessings of Chhathi Maiya, Lord Aditya was incarnated. Lord Aditya represented the gods and helped them win over the demons. Since then, Chhath Puja is performed for getting a son, protection of children and family, the auspicious result of which fulfills all the wishes and life remains happy.
