According to the report, illegal immigrants have been living in 'fear' since Trump was sworn in and passed a series of executive orders related to immigration.

The paper reported that 'It has been observed that the streets and restaurants in Bengali-dominated areas, which used to be crowded with people earlier, are now almost completely empty. Security arrangements have already been tightened.'

The report quoted Khadija Muntaha Ruba, a law enforcement official working with immigrants in New York, as saying that the undocumented Bangladeshis were arrested while they were "loitering" in the area.

Muntaha advised Bangladeshis to be cautious and said that if members of any law enforcement agency question them, they should cooperate. They should stop working with someone else's work permit. They should not get into unnecessary police or other disputes and troubles during this difficult time.

In an executive order signed soon after taking office on January 20, Trump stressed that over the past four years, the previous administration "invited" an unprecedented flood of illegal immigration into the US.

"Millions of illegal aliens crossed our borders or were allowed to come directly into the United States on commercial flights and settle in American communities, in violation of longstanding federal laws," it said.

The number of Bangladeshis coming to the US has increased rapidly over the past few decades. Several recent reports have shown that Bangladeshis are one of the fastest growing Asian ethnic groups in New York City.
