At the 52nd G7 Summit in the town of Evian on French Riviera last month Prime Minister Modi presented world leaders with the best of Indian handicrafts and heritage that the country has to offer.
Among PM's gifting repertoire, included are GI-tagged Nagauri Ashwagandha from Nagaur district of Rajasthan.
The famously popular Ramban honey from the Chenab valley of Jammu and Kashmir and also an iconic Banarasi silk stole from the spiritual city of Varanasi have been gifted to world leaders. The former is revered in Ayurveda as a rasayana important for gaining strength and vitality, mental clarity, sleep issues and improving immune function. The Ramban honey is known to showcase the unique legacy of Himalayan biodiversity and indigenous bee keeping. The Banarasi silk stole represents the nation’s ancient weaving tradition, sophisticated artistry and inherent cultural grandeur.
The ‘message of Mahabharata reached French President.’
The traditional handcrafted painting depicting the epic of Mahabharata was gifted by PM Modi to French President Emmanuel Macron. This artwork created using the folk Kalamkari art form of Andhra Pradesh took nearly six months to prepare and showcases the universal message of duty, righteousness, courage, self-discipline, moral and ethical leadership as taught in the Mahabharata and Bhagavad Gita. French First Lady, Brigitte Macron was presented with a Pochampalli silk stole from Telangana.
The piece is a classic of traditional Ikat weaving and is the perfect example of the celebrated textile art from the region. Indians in Slovakia Display of handicrafts and knowledge traditions To Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini, PM Modi gifted cufflinks with unique ‘Thewa’ art of Pratapgarh,Himroo silk tie and pocket square of Aurangabad and a brass antelope set in ‘Dokra’ art (tribal craft). ‘Thewa’ and ‘Himroo’ art pieces from India, apart from their own intrinsic appeal are both recognized for their GI heritage.

India's old-age medical wisdom arrived to Slovakia in the form of tastes of traditional ‘Thekua’ made from… The National Council of Slovakia President Richard Rasi was presented with ‘Thekua’ - a delicious traditional sweet snack of Bihar and Jharkhand, along with ‘Sushruta Samhita’ and ‘Charaka Samhita’ – two ancient treatises of Ayurveda, in reference to the country's renowned medical knowledge traditions.
