How the Brutal 2011 Crime Unfolded

The chilling incident dates back to May 2011, when Gurmeet Singh, operating a taxi in New York, picked up a female passenger who fell asleep during the journey home. Upon waking, the victim discovered Singh holding a knife to her throat.

According to federal court documents, Singh bound her hands and feet, gagged her with a cloth, blindfolded her, stripped her, and subjected her to a violent sexual assault. The brave victim managed to escape from the vehicle in the early morning hours and fled to a bystander on the street for emergency help, triggering a criminal investigation that ultimately put the perpetrator behind bars.

Concealing Criminal Past During Naturalization

Despite having committed the violent assault in May 2011, Singh deliberately omitted all details of the crime when his citizenship application was reviewed. He was granted US citizenship in October 2011, only months after the brutal attack.
