Yogi Government's Diwali Bonanza: Over 2 Lakh Ujjwala Beneficiaries in Rampur
In a major festive welfare push ahead of Diwali, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has initiated the distribution of free liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder refills for economically weaker households under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. In Rampur district alone, more than 2.08 lakh enrolled families are eligible to avail of the festive relief, allowing connection holders to book their subsidized refill anytime during the festive quarter spanning October to December 2026. Under the direct benefit transfer (DBT) framework, a total subsidy amount of ₹983.45 per cylinder is being credited straight into the authenticated bank accounts of registered beneficiaries, ensuring rural and low-income kitchens remain smoke-free throughout the holiday season.
Direct Benefit Transfer: ₹983.45 Subsidy Breakdown and Booking Schedule
The official rollout was marked at an administrative convention held inside the Vikas Bhawan auditorium in Rampur, where a statewide address by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was broadcast live to local beneficiaries. Attending the ceremony, Minister of State for Agriculture Baldev Singh Aulakh formally handed over symbolic subsidy cheques to women beneficiaries alongside district officials. Outlining the operational procedure, District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi confirmed that eligible connection holders can book their domestic refill across local distributorships until late December to claim the financial relief. The total subsidy of ₹983.45 per refill reflects a coordinated welfare split, combining the Central Government’s subsidy contribution of ₹335.45 with an additional top-up grant of ₹648 funded entirely by the Uttar Pradesh state exchequer.
Zero Poverty Drive: Ground Reality and Phase 3 Expansion in Rampur
While the festive concession brings substantial relief to rural homemakers—such as Aarti from Mathurapura Kala in Patwai, who noted that commercial refill costs often restrict families to cooking on traditional chulhas except during government-sponsored distributions on Holi and Diwali—authorities are expanding institutional coverage. District Supply Officer Puran Singh Chauhan emphasized that beneficiaries must ensure their bank accounts are actively linked and seeded with Aadhaar to prevent payment rejections under the DBT gateway. Out of Rampur's 562,812 domestic LPG connections, 208,087 are currently registered under the Ujjwala scheme. Under the administration's ongoing Zero Poverty Plan, survey teams have mapped 14,168 vulnerable families across the district; while 2,805 are already enrolled, preliminary verification has identified 11,363 eligible households who will soon receive new free connections under the third phase of the Ujjwala initiative.
