Yogi Government Launches BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week Across 1.32 Lakh
The Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department is celebrating BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week from November 1 to 7 across 1.32 lakh council schools, engaging over 1.42 crore students in seven core Mission LiFE themes to build grassroots climate awareness.
In a comprehensive state-wide environmental education drive, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has rolled out the 'BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week' across more than 1.32 lakh council schools (parishadiya vidyalayas) from November 1 to November 7, 2026. Designed to instill ecological consciousness and social responsibility from early childhood, the mega campaign mobilizes over 1.42 crore enrolled students across all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Anchored by the Government of India’s flagship Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) framework, the initiative empowers school-based eco-clubs to transform educational institutions into regional hubs for sustainability, ensuring that conservation values, energy-saving practices, and responsible consumption habits transition from classrooms directly into rural and urban households.
Seven Days, Seven Green Pledges: Tracking Daily Action Plans Across UP Classrooms
The week-long environmental curriculum is structured around seven distinct daily themes designed to drive measurable behavioral change among young learners. The campaign commenced on November 1 with interactive modules on adopting healthy, chemical-free living, followed by dedicated campus exercises on energy conservation on November 2 and water security initiatives on November 3. On November 4, participating schools engaged students in exploring sustainable food systems, balanced nutrition, and local agrarian practices. The second half of the schedule targets critical modern ecological challenges, scheduling statewide campaigns against single-use plastics on November 5, specialized modules on safe electronic waste (e-waste) disposal on November 6, and practical waste reduction through circular recycling techniques on November 7. Comprehensive instructional toolkits, informative posters, and audio-visual guidelines are distributed directly to educators and eco-club coordinators via the central departmental portal ecoclubs.education.gov.in.
Active Eco-Clubs and Youth Leadership: Minister Sandeep Singh Outlines Long-Term Vision
To translate awareness into tangible community action, schools are organizing interactive Mission LiFE pledges, competitive poster-making exhibitions, creative zero-waste crafts, and neighborhood awareness rallies led by student delegates. Emphasizing the broader impact of the initiative, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education Sandeep Singh stated that the Yogi administration remains committed to blending academic excellence with civic stewardship. The minister highlighted that instilling foundational habits—such as reducing plastic footprints, conserving tap water, segregating household wet and dry garbage, and managing electricity usage—prepares students to act as environmental ambassadors in their communities, creating a resilient baseline for future ecological conservation across Uttar Pradesh.
