Inside Yogi Govt’s Massive ‘Operation Trinetra’ Security Grid
In an extensive push toward digital transformation and citizen security, the Uttar Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has scaled modern smart policing through technological integration, community engagement, and rapid response mechanisms. Anchoring this statewide surveillance overhaul is the flagship initiative ‘Operation Trinetra,’ which has successfully installed more than 12.85 lakh high-definition CCTV cameras across Uttar Pradesh between July 10, 2023, and September 30, 2026. By building an interconnected electronic security canopy across public thoroughfares, commercial squares, transit hubs, and vulnerable border zones, the state police apparatus has transformed forensic evidence gathering, suspect identification, and routine investigations into a data-driven security grid. Alongside real-time digital monitoring, systemic institutional reforms—such as dedicated women’s help desks in every police station, the activation of 8,694 operational women’s beats, and sustained enforcement under the Anti-Romeo campaign—have elevated law-and-order management across both metropolitan and rural districts.
Specialized Women’s Beats and the Anti-Romeo Drive: Fortifying Public Spaces for Women
Institutional accountability and prompt grievance redressal for female citizens remain central to the state’s urban policing model, driven by the strategic deployment of 19,045 women police officers stationed across all territorial precincts. Through the coordinated integration of women's help desks and the allocation of 8,694 designated women's beats, the force has bridged direct communication channels between local communities and law enforcement, resolving localized distress calls swiftly. Operating alongside beat patrols, the state’s ongoing Anti-Romeo Campaign executed rigorous area-domination exercises from April 1, 2022, to September 30, 2026. Over this operational timeline, police teams conducted comprehensive inspections across 8,745,228 vulnerable public locations, screening more than 48.3 million (4.83 crore) individuals; these proactive patrols culminated in the registration of 19,554 formal FIRs, direct legal action against 24,434 offenders, and preventive counseling issued to over 17.1 million (1.71 crore) individuals to safeguard women from public harassment.
Decimating Organized Crime: ₹4,558 Crore Mafia Assets Seized and Frontline Counter-Operations
Beyond street-level vigilance, the state has systematically dismantled the financial lifelines of organized syndicates through aggressive enforcement under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, the UP Goondas Act, and the National Security Act (NSA). As of September 25, 2026, specialized task forces maintain coordinated surveillance against 68 identified top-tier mafia leaders and their operational networks, leading to the confiscation, demolition, or liberation of illicitly held land and properties valued at over ₹4,558 crore. Police records verify that 923 cases have been registered against 1,508 recognized syndicate operatives, resulting in the formal arrest of more than 653 accused gang members. Frontline counter-criminal operations between March 20, 2017, and September 30, 2026, witnessed high-risk armed confrontations wherein 316 hardened criminals were neutralized in police encounters and 12,821 sustained injuries. During these intense operations to uphold the rule of law, 18 courageous police personnel made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, while 1,949 officers sustained serious operational injuries, underscoring the severe operational risks undertaken to establish institutional accountability and criminal deterrence.
Eliminating Illicit Supply Chains: Anti-Narcotics Task Force and the Crackdown on Spurious Alcohol
To sever the nexus between criminal cartels and illicit trafficking, the Uttar Pradesh administration established a specialized Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) supported by six dedicated Anti-Narcotics Police Stations operating in Ghazipur, Barabanki, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Saharanpur, and Jhansi, reinforced by eight regional operational units and an elite sub-unit based in Noida. From January 1, 2022, to September 27, 2026, anti-drug operations yielded the registration of 38,625 cases, resulting in the interdiction and destruction of illicit contraband valued at an estimated ₹3,565 crore. Concurrently, law enforcement conducted relentless operations against illegal distillery rings and bootlegging networks, registering 289,282 cases related to the manufacture and distribution of toxic and illicit liquor. These widespread enforcement drives confiscated illicit alcohol stocks valued at over ₹576 crore, with rigorous prosecutorial tracking securing convictions against 13,257 individuals in court, ensuring that public health hazards and organized commercial crime are met with swift judicial retribution.
