Under decisions approved during the 128th meeting of the GDA Board, the authority will induct 48 additional ex-servicemen to augment its specialized enforcement squads. Alongside the personnel expansion, the board cleared a key 10 percent annual honorarium increment for all serving and incoming enforcement personnel, mirroring pay parity established by municipal corporations. This strategic upgrade expands the GDA's enforcement force from 12 to 60 personnel, raising the authority's monthly security payroll expenditure from Rs 2.75 lakh to Rs 14,24,500.

Strategic Asset Protection Across Master Plan-2031 Zones and Water Bodies

The newly inducted ex-servicemen will be deployed across all four operational zones governed by the Gorakhpur Master Plan-2031 (Revised) to stop unauthorized plotting, prevent haphazard construction, and assist field teams during anti-encroachment, demolition, and building-sealing campaigns. Beyond civic enforcement, these dedicated squads will provide round-the-clock surveillance for key municipal assets, civic parks, passenger boat jetties, the Chiluataal water complex, and the ecologically sensitive Ramgarh Lake precinct. The expanded presence ensures that civic enforcement operations maintain rigorous law and order while protecting public land banks from organized land-grabbing syndicates.

Board Clears 10% Salary Hike: Revised Monthly Honorarium for JCOs and Guards

Responding to sustained representations from serving personnel who sought compensation revisions in line with municipal corporation scales to counter inflation, the GDA Board formally approved a 10 percent hike in monthly remuneration. Under the newly sanctioned salary structure:

• Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs): Monthly compensation increases from Rs 40,000 to Rs 44,000.

• Armed Security Guards: Monthly honorarium rises from Rs 20,500 to Rs 22,550.

• Unarmed Security Guards: Monthly honorarium is revised from Rs 18,500 to Rs 20,350.

The existing 12-member squad—comprising two JCOs, five armed guards, and five unarmed personnel—had proven numerically insufficient given the rapid physical expansion of the city and escalating demolition duties. The induction of four additional JCOs, 23 armed guards, and 21 unarmed guards completes the authorized strength of 60 enforcement personnel.

Walk-In Recruitment Drive on September 22: Immediate Openings for 22 Guards

To jumpstart immediate deployment requirements, the GDA has issued an open recruitment notification inviting applications for 22 security guard positions, consisting of eight armed and 14 unarmed vacancies. Eligible ex-servicemen registered with the District Sainik Welfare Corporation (Zila Sainik Kalyan Nigam) are directed to appear with relevant military discharge credentials at the GDA's Rapti Auditorium on Tuesday, September 22, at 11:00 AM. Initial appointments for this recruitment tranche will be made at base honorariums of Rs 20,500 for armed guards and Rs 18,500 for unarmed guards before the application of scheduled revisions.
