First Overbridge Stalled for 3 Years, Chandausi Gets Green Light for ₹111-Crore Second Flyover
Commuters navigating the bustling commercial hub of Chandausi in Uttar Pradesh's Sambhal district find themselves caught between prolonged infrastructural frustration and fresh developmental promises. While the crucial overbridge project on the high-density Moradabad-Agra highway corridor remains unfinished three full years after commencement—overshooting its original construction timeline by twice the scheduled duration—administrative wheels have officially begun turning for a second major railway overbridge (ROB). Aimed at untangling persistent transit bottlenecks at the notorious Bhaintari Gate, a comprehensive infrastructure proposal valued at ₹110.83 crore has been finalized and formally submitted to the state government, offering hope of permanent relief to thousands of daily motorists stranded at shut railway gates.
Ministerial Push and CM Approval: Key Blueprint of the ₹110.83-Crore Bhaintari Gate Overbridge
The momentum for the new overbridge gained traction following an intervention by Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Minister Gulab Devi, who strongly petitioned Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for an additional railway flyover during his official district visit to inaugurate various public welfare projects on July 18. Backing the infrastructure requirement, the Chief Minister granted administrative assent, prompting Abhay Pratap Srivastava, Deputy Secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD), to formally issue official correspondence setting the project in motion. According to detailed departmental blueprints, the proposed one-kilometer-long overbridge will span across the busy Moradabad-Farrukhabad railway line at Railway Crossing Gate Number 34-A (popularly known as Bhaintari Gate). Because frequent railway crossing closures currently trigger massive vehicular pile-ups and trap hundreds of commercial and private vehicles daily, authorities project that the elevated corridor will modernize local traffic distribution and permanently eliminate gridlocks across the transit corridor.
Three Years and Counting: Moradabad-Agra Highway Overbridge Still Misses Deadline
The announcement of the new project comes against the backdrop of growing local impatience over the sluggish progress of Chandausi’s first railway overbridge on the Moradabad-Agra highway. When civil works originally kicked off, daily travelers and transport operators anticipated an end to the chronic traffic congestion that paralyzes the highway whenever railway barrier gates are lowered. However, the initial construction deadline of eighteen months expired more than a year and a half ago. Three years into the build, the key highway structure remains incomplete and far from operational, multiplying commuter hardship and raising urgent questions regarding contractor accountability and project monitoring, even as ground plans for the second multi-crore elevated bridge get underway.
