CM Yogi Honors Martyrs on Police Memorial Day, Details Massive UP Crime Crackdown

Paying solemn homage to fallen law enforcement personnel on the occasion of Police Memorial Day on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared that the state has decisively moved past an era of lawlessness, establishing a system where no individual is above the law. Sharing reflections on the state's structural law-and-order transformation on social platform X, the Chief Minister saluted the supreme sacrifices made by brave officers who laid down their lives to safeguard national security, protect civic peace, and preserve public life. Characterizing the valor, courage, and dedication of the martyrs as an enduring source of inspiration for the state administration, Adityanath underscored that Uttar Pradesh has successfully shed its past legacy of recurrent communal tension and administrative paralysis, transitioning from a state once paralyzed by civil unrest into an engine of continuous celebration and civic safety.

From Mathura’s Jawahar Bagh Tragedy to Zero Tolerance: Dismantling Pre-2017 Mafia Networks

Reflecting on the law-and-order environment preceding his administration, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a sharp critique of previous political regimes, pointing out that prior to 2017, widespread patronized mafia networks and criminal syndicates operated with brazen impunity across Uttar Pradesh. The Chief Minister cited the infamous Jawahar Bagh tragedy in Mathura—where heavily armed encroachers engaged authorities in an armed standoff that claimed the lives of senior police officers—as a tragic reminder of an era when the morale of lawless elements was permitted to overshadow executive authority. Emphasizing that political interference in policing has been replaced by unambiguous administrative autonomy, Adityanath stated that the UP Police force has been granted total operational freedom to initiate swift, uncompromising enforcement against criminal outfits, permanently restoring institutional authority and public trust across all seventy-five districts.

Modernizing the Force: 2.26 Lakh Recruitments, 7 Commissionerates, and ₹15,000 Crore in Seized Assets

Outlining the modernization measures that have overhauled the state's investigative and preventive policing framework, Chief Minister Adityanath revealed that over 2.26 lakh police personnel have been systematically inducted into the force, supported by a ten-fold expansion in state training facility capacities. The institutional architecture has been modernized through the rollout of the metropolitan police commissionerate system across seven premier urban hubs, the establishment of dedicated cyber crime police stations in every district, and the installation of specialized women’s help desks at every local police station. Backing these institutional upgrades with punitive enforcement, the Chief Minister reported that decisive legal proceedings have been initiated against 88,973 criminals under the stringent Gangster Act, resulting in the confiscation and demolition of illicit mafia-held properties valued in excess of ₹15,000 crore. Reaffirming his administration's pledge to the families of fallen martyrs, Adityanath reiterated that the government will continue to dedicate all necessary resources to maintain an equitable, transparent, and completely fear-free Uttar Pradesh.
