CM Yogi Celebrates Janmashtami at Gorakhnath Temple: Swings Laddu Gopal and Blesses Children in Gorakhpur
The sacred festival of Shri Krishna Janmashtami was celebrated with immense spiritual fervor, traditional devotion, and grand celebrations at the historic Gorakhnath Temple in Gorakhpur. Gorakshapeethadhiswar and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the state-level celebrations, immersing himself in deep devotion from Mathura to Lucknow and finally presiding over the midnight rituals within the sanctum sanctorum of the Gorakhnath Temple.
The festivities drew massive crowds of devotees, saints, and local dignitaries, transforming the temple complex into a vibrant replica of Mathura and Gokul as hymns, bells, and traditional Sohar songs echoed through the night.
A Day of Divine Devotion Across Mathura, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath maintained a deeply spiritual schedule throughout Janmashtami. Beginning his day in Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, he offered formal prayers at the sacred Janmabhoomi temple and prayed for the peace, happiness, and prosperity of the people of Uttar Pradesh.
After participating in evening celebrations at the Lucknow Police Lines, the Chief Minister arrived in Gorakhpur late Friday night. Upon entering the Gorakhnath Temple, he first paid his respects to Guru Gorakhnath before offering floral tributes at the samadhi of his revered guru, the late Mahant Avedyanath, seeking divine blessings for the state.
Midnight Sanctum Sanctorum Rituals and Cradle Ceremony
The pinnacle of the celebration took place precisely at midnight within the temple's sanctum sanctorum. As the clock struck 12, marking the divine birth of Lord Krishna, the temple resounded with joyous chants of Nand Ghar Anand Bhayo, Jai Kanhaiyalal Ki and Shri Krishna Govind Hare Murari.
CM Yogi personally performed the traditional appearance rituals, stepping out of the sanctum holding the infant form of Lord Hari, Laddu Gopal, in his arms. He placed the deity into a beautifully flower-decorated cradle, gently rocked him with profound reverence, and performed aarti. Following the midnight ceremonies, temple authorities distributed fresh fruits and prasad to the thousands of gathered devotees.
Interacting with Young Radhas and Kanhaiyas
Earlier in the evening, CM Yogi attended a vibrant Bhajan Sandhya organized at the Mahant Digvijaynath Smriti Bhavan auditorium, coordinated by renowned folk singer Dr. Rakesh Srivastava. During the event, the Chief Minister took time to interact warmly with children participating in the Sri Krishna Child Form Decoration Competition.
Dressed adorably as little Krishnas and Radhas, the children captured the audience's hearts. CM Yogi showered them with affection, joked with them, gifted them toys and chocolates, and generously fulfilled requests for selfies and recitations. He also formally presented certificates and prizes to winners across various categories, including Sharvil Pandey, Sarthak, and Soumya Prajapati, celebrating the innocent joy of the festival alongside local families and dignitaries.
