News Topical, Digital Desk : Taking another big decision regarding the pharma sector, US President Donald Trump has signed an order on Monday. The main objective of this order is to promote the production of medicines in America. After this order, pharma companies will get the facility to create production facilities in America. America is preparing to impose tariffs on imported medicines soon.

After this decision of Trump, the US drug regulator (US FDA) has been asked to speed up the approval process of production facilities for pharma companies in the US. For this, unnecessary rules will be removed, the review process will be simplified and initial assistance will be given to domestic drug manufacturers.

Crackdown on pharma companies of other countries!
This order also mentions that the inspection charge of the US regulator on foreign production facilities will be increased. The information about the source of other materials including APIs of the pharma companies from which medicines are imported to the US will be implemented in a better way. Apart from this, a list of non-compliant facilities will also be prepared. 

America does not want to buy medicines from other countries. The White House says that at present it may take 5 to 10 years to create new capacity for drug production, which is not acceptable from the point of view of national security of America. Trump said, "We do not want to buy our medicines from other countries, because in the event of war we may have problems. We want to make our medicines in America itself." Sudden inspection of production facility:- Apart from this, this order will allow the US FDA to inspect new production facilities without much resources. Sudden inspections will now be conducted for foreign drug facilities, whereas earlier these inspections were pre-scheduled. ... 

What else in this order? Trump's order also directs the Environmental Protection Agency to speed up the construction of factories related to drugs and their raw materials. Also, the US FDA, which issues permits for domestic drug factories, has been asked to appoint a single contact person and seek support from the White House's Office of Management and Budget. 

Big announcement on tariff in 15 days This order comes before Trump's plan to impose tariffs on imported drugs. Trump told reporters on Monday that he would announce a special tariff on drugs in the next two weeks. His government launched an investigation in April, which is looking at the impact of imports of certain drugs on national security. This is considered to be the first step towards imposing tariffs.
