News Topical, Digital Desk : On the day of Sensex weekly expiry, selling was seen in the domestic stock market. Both the major indexes closed in red for the third consecutive day. On Tuesday, May 20, there was selling all around in the market. Nifty slipped by about 250 points. Nifty and Sensex saw a decline of up to 1%. Bank Nifty also slipped by 1%. The midcap index slipped by 1.5%.

42 out of 50 Nifty stocks closed with losses. Auto stocks saw the most weakness.

At what level did the market close? Nifty closed 262 points lower at 24,684 after a full day's work on Tuesday. Sensex also closed at 81,186 after falling 873 points. Nifty Bank closed 543 points lower at 54,877. On the other hand, Nifty Midcap Index closed 823 points lower at 56,183. 

Which stocks saw action today? Eternal was the weakest stock on Nifty. This stock closed 4% lower today after getting approval from shareholders regarding FIIs holding cap. 3 of the top 4 weakest stocks were auto sector stocks. Defense sector stocks saw a decline for the second consecutive day. These stocks showed weakness of 2-8% today. Zydus Life closed down 3% after weaker than expected sales in the US. HT Media also closed with a gain of 20% after the fourth quarter results. Hindalco also closed about 2% better after its results. Power Grid slipped by 2% today after weak results. Gujarat Gas closed down 3% after a 21% decline in industrial volumes. GMR Power closed down 3% after margins fell by 529 basis points and EBITDA declined by 14.4%. BEL has given a better outlook for the financial year 2026, after which this stock also managed to close with a slight gain. DLF topped the list of the fastest growing stocks in midcap. The fourth quarter results of this company have also been better than expected.
